The distance between the Earth and the Sun is 1.5×1011m and the masses of these objects are 6×1024kg and 2×1030kg. The Earth is orbiting the Sun and therefore the energy of the system is

E=12U=12GMSMEr=12(6.67×1011)(2×1030)(6×1024)1.5×1011=5.3×1033J

The escape velocity at the distance r=1.5×1011m is given by

v=2GMSr=2(6.67×1011)(2×1030)1.5×1011=4.22×104m/s=42.2km/s
